I hold the escape key on boot up, and get to device selection screen. I'm currently attempting to boot Gentoo from an external hard drive that made into a live USB (as per the instruction guide on the site) so that I can dual-boot from it when my laptop starts up. Solution 2: Mark Partition Active If you try to install a fresh copy of Windows on your PC, this solution is highly useful. After finishing changing the registry key, you should reboot your PC and check if you can install Windows on a USB drive. Follow the instructions to install Windows. Select the option that boots the PC from the USB flash drive. Turn on the PC and press the key that opens the boot-device selection menu for the computer, such as the Esc/F10/F12 keys.
